One thing that I think Anne McCaffrey did very well is making certain that her dragons and the culture that evolved on Pern make sense, biologically and socially. However, her detail and the care given to the characters within the book was quite compelling, and thus I will be attempt reading that entire series at some point. If you missed my raving in the late fall, I read and loOoOoOoOoOoved her Liveship Traders trilogy (and thank you, dear husband, for finding them for me in hardcover so I can better horde them for all time). I can see that you go through life athwart it. Anyway, I just read this in an interview The book in question was 'Cloven Hooves', which remains one of my all-time favourites. If you haven't read it: This is the first book of The Liveship Traders trilogy, which also contains Mad Ship and Ship of Destiny. Ship of Magic (The Liveship Traders, Book 1). But still manage to stamp their mark on the fantasy genre nonetheless. And I'll be looking at this one!
